Shortcomings of Science
According to Wikipedia the free encyclopedia, Science is a body of empirical, theoretical and practical knowledge about the natural world, produced by scientists who emphasize the observation, explanation and prediction of real world phenomena. This is an ambiguous definition. Then what is science? Science is the father of all disciplines and the fact of knowing something, knowledge or understanding of the truth.
Where is science originated from? According to history, it can be traced back when ancient philosophers in the 6th century stopped believing on myth. It all started in Greek, because the Classical Greek minds has their source in a mythological explanation of reality. Thales of Miletus was the first to ask for a rational explanation of reality. Which later prompted other philosophers like Anaximander, Pythagoras etc, who started involving themselves in the work of science, among them is the famous Galileo Galilei (father of modern science). If one should write about the history of science, it will take couple of years for the editing of that work because different authors have various things to say about the beginning of science.
The positive impart of science to mankind is so numerous to mention because science is almost everything. Some of them are:
1.) Technology:
Through the introduction of science, engineers and scientists have produce so many device that assists humans in their endeavour. Such as Cars, ships that ease the problem of transportation, cellphone that solve the problem of communication. With the aid of technology known as artificial intelligence, computer vision and data pulled from multiple sensors, Amazon Go runs a grocery store. This technology can detect when products are taken or returned to the shelves and keeps track of them in your virtual cart which makes a counter not important.
2.) Medicine:
Ancient medicine men used herbs to cure sick ones and are mostly called physicians but due to the introduction of science, the study of medicine has been so vast that kidney transplant can be made possible.
Despite all these good and amazing work has been doing and is doing, there are lot of shortcomings involved. What is shortcoming of science? This is a phenomenon in which the findings of science become inadequate, incomplete and incorrect. There are so many areas that science has been proved wrong in some of her theories, we are going to highlight few of them.
1.) The theory of Evolution:
This was first formulated in Darwin's book "on the origin of species". Some people say, Evolution by natural selection is one of the best substantiated theories in the history of science, supported by evidence from a wide variety of scientific disciplines, including paleontology, geology, genetics and developmental biology. Some scientists believe that God does not exist, that humans or life originated from non-living chemicals. Evolution has some sense in it, for example the idea of some aquatic animal becoming terrestrial and so on, but this same so called Evolution can't give the answer to the question " Which is the first between the egg and the hen? The answer can be found in the holy book (The Bible) of Genesis where God the Almighty created all plants and animals. Though it might look difficult to believe that the earth was created by a God which we can't see, but that is the reason the Bible is as a guide.
2.) Concept of Dreams:
What is a dream? This is a collection of images and ideas that occur involuntarily during certain periods of repose. This is caused by the brain being in action when we sleep. According to science, dreams help us process new, emotionally important information and add it to out conceptual memory system. But there is more to dreaming than just these. Dream is also a medium God uses in appearing to people as seen in Genesis 20:3, when he appeared to Abimelech.
3.) Some predictions: There are lot of predictions some scientists have made that come to pass, example Mendeleev's periodic table, in which he draw a table that future elements will fit in and as predicted all those elements fitted in. But there are certain predictions that can never be true such as the prediction about the end of the world. It was warned by some scientist called the doomsayers that on 23rd of April 2018, a biblical prophecy signalling the second coming of Jesus will lead to the destruction of everyone on the planet.
There has been so much predictions of Apocalyptic events, most time the source for the predictions are from the New Testament of the Bible but in Revelation 3:3 it says "Therefore, remember what you received and heard, and obey it, and repent. If you don not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will never know at what hour I will come against you" also in Revelation 16:15 you can also see that. This Apocalyptic prophesies started long ago. Predictions may be right or wrong but you don't predict when the chance of it being true is small it impossible.
In conclusion, science has done so much good to mankind but that does not give it the right to give some theories or prediction with 100% assurance to be true because these laws are made by humans. This is called the shortcoming of science.
