How to tackle the disease women dread
Cancer being one of the world most deadly disease kills about 8.9 million people per year. Some may ask what cancer is. Scientists define cancer as a group of disease that involves an abnormal growth in the cell that in time spreads to other part of the body. Hence, cancer is a major cause of sickness and death throughout the world. This article will discuss about the most occurring type of cancer in females. Breast Cancer is the growth of harmful cell in the mammalian gland, that occurs in both males and females but likely in females. It affects a woman shortly before, during, or after menopause. The older a woman is, the greater her chances of developing breast cancer.
Causes of Breast Cancer
The general causes of cancer includes: Smoking, excessive consumption of alcohol, obesity, lack of exercise etc. These differs slightly from the causes of breast cancer, some of the causes of breast cancer may include
Genetic Mutation: Mutation being a genetic disorder is the change in sequence of gene that occurs during DNA replication (especially during meiosis). In addition to genetic mutations, other factors, including prolonged exposure to the hormone estrogen, as when menstruation starts before age 12 and continues beyond age 50, favour the development of cancer. In postmenopausal women, breast cancer risk is increased markedly by elevated circulating concentrations of sex hormones (estrogens and androgens). Concentrations of these hormones have been found to be abnormally high in postmenopausal women who are obese, who drink alcohol, or who smoke. In addition, for all women, lack of exercise, obesity, use of oral contraceptives, alcohol consumption, smoking, and previous medical treatments involving chest irradiation are considered risk factors for breast cancer.
Symptoms of breast cancer are: Abnormal lump in the mammalian gland, feeling of pains around the breast, abnormal nipple discharge and change in colour of the breast.
Diagnosis: This include Self-examination in which the individual check out for changes around the breast. Mammography (x-ray examination of the breast) can also be employed.
Treatment: Surgery which includes lumpectomy and mastectomy (removal of the entire breast) is the main treatment of breast cancer
